As many of you know, I have a deep passion for learning, psychology, and art. Recently, I took a leap and joined my mother, Desiree Costanza, in the charming town of Laurel, Mississippi. Together, we decided it was the perfect time to expand her art studio and breathe new life into a shared dream.
For this blog post, I wanted to share a bit about my mother’s inspiring journey and give you a glimpse into our vision for the new studio. So, I sat down with her for a casual interview - and here’s what she had to say.
Desiree Liza Costanza - A little History

“Over the years, I’ve had the incredible privilege of learning from and collaborating with some of the world’s most respected artists. In South Africa, I studied under the visionary architectural stained glass artist Fanus Boshoff".
"My passion for glass art took me to the renowned Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle, where I learned from world renowned artists Dick Weiss, Susan Stinsmuehlen-Amend, and Cappy Thompson. I also spent time in Barcelona, Spain, studying under British artist Phillipa Beverage, and US artist Rene Culler, which deepened my appreciation for European influences in glasswork”.
“Throughout my career, I’ve founded and run several art studios in both South Africa and Arizona, each one shaped by the people and places around me. Now, I’m excited to bring that experience to Laurel - a town rich in history and creative spirit.”
Falling in Love with Laurel, Mississippi
“I was drawn to Laurel, Mississippi. My husband and I decided to take a trip to explore the area and look for a home, and the moment I arrived, something just clicked. There was this unexpected sense of belonging, as if the town had been waiting for me. Although we didn’t find the right house on that first trip, I knew I wasn’t giving up. On my next visit, I found a property that captured my heart - there was a quiet magic to the property that I couldn’t ignore”.

“My husband and I officially made the move from Arizona in January 2022. Then, in December 2023, my daughter and her family joined us from South Africa. With her arrival, it finally felt like the right time to reopen my creative world and launch something new. Together, we decided to collaborate - and build something meaningful.”
A New Creative Space
“I’m thrilled to be opening a new art studio here in Laurel - a space where creativity, craftsmanship, and community come together. This is more than just a studio; it’s the next chapter in a lifelong journey through the world of art and glass. Whether you’re an artist, a collector, or simply curious, we invite you to stop by, say hello, and experience the beauty of what we’re creating. Our hope is that this studio becomes a place of connection, exploration, and inspiration.”
We’re just getting started, and I can’t wait to share more about our studio, upcoming projects, and the incredible things happening here in Laurel. Be sure to check in each week for the latest from Costanza Creations - we’ve got so much more to come!
